Custom Programs

This transformational experience pairs leaders and teams with horses to reach new levels of insight, teamwork and productivity. Your group will participate in a variety of activities with horses that develop collaboration, cooperation, courage and creativity among team members. We work with you to develop a one or two day program tailored to your goals, which may include how to:

  • Find common ground while valuing differences
  • Advance trust and mutual respect
  • Drive commitment and accountability
  • Communicate more clearly and effectively within and across teams
  • Move more quickly from conflict to resolution
  • Expand personal authority, presence and impact
  • Better engage and motivate others around a shared vision
  • Successfully face complex challenges and change initiatives
  • Unleash team potential to improve the bottom line

All horse activities take place on the ground and are accessible for team members at any level of physical ability. No riding is involved.

Why Horses?

A team of people and a herd of horses have a lot in common. They both require strong leadership, clear, consistent communication and a keen awareness of the needs and goals of the group.

Engaging with horses in a natural setting offers an expansive possibility for personal insight, communication skill-building, creative thinking, thoughtful decisions and powerful action, all of which lead to better teamwork and leadership.

Horses don't care about titles or degrees, pay scales or professional status symbols. They have no hidden agendas. They respond to us in ways that are immediate, transparent, and honest. The benefit of learning with horses is that they have an amazing ability to resonate with and reflect back to us our authentic self. Horses are master coaches who can show us when we are:

  • Present or absent
  • Aligned in our walk and talk
  • Clear about our purpose and what we are asking
  • Pretending or judging

We will work with you directly to develop a custom workshop tailored to your goals. A few sample programs are outlined below.

For more information call 425-488-7747 or email to

When teams are emotionally intelligent, they are more likely to excel in leadership behaviors such as adaptation to change, conflict resolution, and effective negotiation. With the help of our inspiring equines, your team will have a practical, clear understanding of emotional intelligence and its positive impact on your team's objectives.

Leading with Trust strengthens your team's ability to combine personal responsibility with compassion and respect for others. This workshop covers the 13 behaviors of trust-inspiring leaders such as demonstrating respect, creating transparency, righting wrongs, and practicing accountability.

"WOW, what an amazing 24 hours—I now know why everyone wanted to come back to Willows Lodge. The Willows experience is something to behold. There was not a thing we needed, asked for, or that wasn’t anticipated for us by your team. The food was amazing as is the entire property. And, referencing your team, you just don’t get service like that anywhere anymore and it was just so genuine. Thanks so much for making me look like a superstar."

Sandy Oak, West Region ThyssenKrupp Elevator Americas

" Everything was perfect.  Thank you for all your support.  Some comments from the team since returning include:

"That was the best offsite of any I've ever attended, at any company I've worked for."

"The setting was perfect.  I'm going to bring my spouse to Willows Lodge for a get-away now!"

"The staff and food make the week really special."

Tanaya K. Caim, Juno Therapeutics, Inc.

“Overall the service was outstanding, the facilities were well serviced and the catering was exactly what people were looking for.”

Malcom Brown, Merriweather Training and Conferences

“I was really impressed with your hotel, your food and the friendliness and service orientation of your staff.”

Jenifer DuPape, Microsoft Corporation

"Great event! Your staff gives new meaning to the word 'service'."

Connie Gregg, Microsoft

"Key reasons for making a memorable location: The food, in this case, was unbelievable. The rooms were delightful. I facilitated for a client with 30 of their employees, and at the end of the day, I felt like the location / food / service helped ME make this a memorable day for my client. The location was my secret sauce – and yet, I hadn’t even been the one to select the site. It supported me anyway and allowed everyone to focus on learning."

Lori Richardson, Score More

"I am NOT sure that you understand what you guys have here at the Willows. It is the smoothest, friendliest, most efficient, customer focused environment that I have ever worked with. I am not just saying this. You are truly blessed! This week would have been nothing without your creativity, leadership and full on spunk!"

Debi Speers, Eagles Flight

“The evening was just perfect! You folks did such a wonderful job, I can’t praise you enough. I received many wonderful comments on how wonderful the food and service was. (Especially the food.) “...I cannot say enough good things about this property: accommodating, gracious...every employee from server to housekeeper to guest services agents genuinely like their job and you can tell they want to be here.  The food has been excellent, really top notch, not like any hotel/conference food we have ever had.  Every meal was truly above expectation.  I could go on and on!...

Mark Nass, Strategic Development, Pacific NW Region, Phillips 66

"The staff exhibited a great amount of flexibility and cooperation to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our meeting. We were truly impressed with how the staff members pulled together to react to our requests. Their efforts enabled us to focus on the other details and activities that needed to take place."

Lisa Theule, Foremost Insurance Group

“As usual, we had a volume of very favorable comments from a number of attendees about what a great meeting it was and what a tremendous facility the Willows Lodge provides! One of the corporate guys from Indiana stood up at the Saturday night dinner and said he had attended most of the distributorship meetings throughout the US and none were even close to what was offered by us for quality, educational advancement and facilities. He promised to return any time we asked! We can’t ask for a better endorsement! Thank you for a job exceptionally well done!”

William Crist, Zimmer Northwest

“I want to thank you and your entire staff for the wonderful service you provided at our board retreat last weekend. I have had nothing but positive remarks from board members, who were very pleased with the facility, the staff, and the service. While it’s always nice to try something new, I don’t know why we would want to go anywhere else for our annual retreat. I think the board members feel the same way.”
